Shannon J. Briglia is a partner at the national construction law firm SMITH, CURRIE & HANCOCK, LLP where she concentrates her practice in the resolution of public and private construction disputes. Elected to the American College of Construction Lawyers in 2016, Ms. Briglia has a thriving practice representing sureties, owners, contractors and subcontractors. With 35 years of experience in the construction industry, Ms. Briglia represents clients in federal and state court trials and appeals, arbitration, mediation and before commissions and boards of contract appeal. Ms. Briglia is a member of the American Bar Association Fidelity & Surety Law Committee and the Forum on Construction. She is an active member of the Virginia State Bar’s Construction and Public Contracts Section, and a past Chair of the section’s Board of Governors. Ms. Briglia is a past chair of the Defense Research Institute’s Fidelity & Surety Law Steering Committee, a past Secretary of the Virginia Bar Association’s Council on Construction and Public Contracts and the past Vice-Chair of the IADC’s Fidelity and Surety Committee. Ms. Briglia is a frequent author and speaker on construction and surety issues. She has written and spoken on scheduling, delays, inefficiencies, changes, differing site conditions, terminations, payment, and surety bond issues to a variety of audiences, including other lawyers as well as contractors and sureties. She is A.V. preeminent rated by her peers in Martindale Hubbell, selected by Chambers since 2007, and has been selected as a Virginia “SuperLawyer” in the area of construction law each year since 2008 and a Washington, D.C. “SuperLawyer” each year since 2007.
