Shawn Charles has an extensive background in higher education finance. With over 20 years of experience in the financial management sector, she holds a has a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Jackson State University, in Jackson, MS, and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Troy University in Troy, AL. She began with Southern University at New Orleans as a Grant Accountant and has been on a progressive path since the start. Shawn has served in several capacities including but not limited to Cashier Supervisor, Chief Accountant, and Associate Comptroller. Leading the Finance team, Shawn currently serves as the Comptroller and oversees financial services such as Treasury, Student Accounts Receivable, Disbursements, Collections & Billing, as well as Payroll, Accounts Payable, and Grants. She currently sits on the Board of Directors for the Southern Associates College & University Business Officers (SACUBO) as the HBCU & Diversity Coordinator. Shawn has also been instrumental in the development of the SACUBO Women’s Leadership Forum (WLF) and the program’s success and popularity for the past four years providing helpful insight and support, and currently serves as the Co-Chair for the 2020 Women’s Leadership Forum. Shawn also serves as the Treasurer for the Paul S. Morton Scholarship Board.
