Cathleen has more than 25 years of experience in the solid waste industry. In February 2013, she was hired as Pitkin County's solid waste manager. She is responsible for a $6.5 million integrated solid waste management system that includes a landfill, single-stream recycling transfer operation, unique materials diversion program, a year-round household hazardous waste and e-waste collection facility and composting operation. Previously, she worked as a project manager for nearly 10 years with SCS Engineers in its Reston, Virginia, office. Cathleen is a certified Manager of Landfill Operations, Manager of Composting Programs, and is a Board Certified Environmental Scientist in the specialty of Solid Waste Management with the American Academy of Environmental Scientists and Engineers. In February 2020 she was appointed by Colorado Governor Jarid Polis to serve on the State's Solid and Hazardous Waste Commission. She has a Bachelor's degree in geology from Ohio State University and an MBA from the University of Maryland.
