COL Akitsugu Kimura was born in Fukuoka Pref., JAPAN. He joined the JGSDF in 1995, after graduation from National Defense Academy. He studied Material Science at Graduate School of Science and Engineering in National Defense Academy and received the master’s degree in 2001. In his first assignment, he served as a platoon leader and artillery officer with 3rd Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion in Hyogo from 1995 to 1999. After completing basic officer training in accordance with the Artillery Officer Training, he worked as a staff of Technical Research and Development Institute from 2001 to 2003. In 2003, he was selected to #31st Technical Advanced Course student in the Ground Staff College. He served as a company commander at the 6th Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion from 2004 to 2006.He served as a staff of Test and Evaluation Command from 2006 to 2008. He worked as a staff officer of Training & Education Department in Ground Staff Office, Operation Department in Joint Staff Office from 2008 to 2014. COL Kimura studied International Fellows program Master Course at U.S. Army War College class of 2015 and received the degree of master of Strategic Studies. He served as the Chief of Operation Support 1st Section of Operation Support & Intelligence Department in Ground Staff Office. From 2017 to 2018, He commanded 4th Antiaircraft Artillery Group in Hokkaido. In August 2018, COL Kimura was appointed the director of C4 systems Division, C4systems & Intelligence Department in Ground Staff Office. He is married and has a child.
