Dr. Stas Zinchik is a freshly minted Ph.D. from Michigan Technological University. He received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Ben-Gurion University, Israel, in 2013. Since then, he has been working on renewable energies focusing on thermal treatment of various types of feedstock materials, such as woody biomass, herbaceous material, urban waste, and industrial residues. He has been a part of a team that developed three torrefaction pilot facilities at Ganey-Hadas (Israel), Houghton (MI) and Boardman (OR). Currently, he is working on a first-of-its-kind torrefaction unit, combining torrefaction and extrusion. This combination allows treating new feedstock, including a variety of plastics and fiber wastes. Stas enjoys snowboarding and movies. Please contact him at szinchik@mtu.edu.
