Major General Castellvi is currently the Commanding General of 1st Marine Division. He is from Chicago, IL, and earned his commission through the NROTC program following his graduation from the University of Illinois. As an infantry officer with 35 years of active duty service, Major General Castellvi has served in the operating forces in all three Marine Expeditionary Forces, and has commanded Marines from a Rifle Platoon to a Division. He has served in staff assignments at every level from the infantry battalion to a Marine component in two joint combatant commands. He has ten overseas deployments including combat tours in Panama, Somalia, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Assignments in the supporting establishment include tours of duty at Marine Corps Systems Command and in the Office of the Secretary of Defense. His previous assignments as a General Officer include Commanding General Marine Corps Installations East, Deputy Commanding General for Operations, Combined Joint Force Land Component Command – Iraq for Operation INHERENT RESOLVE, Deputy Commanding General for II Marine Expeditionary Force, Commanding General for 2d Marine Expeditionary Brigade and Director of Manpower Management Division. Major General Castellvi is a graduate of the U.S. Army Infantry Officer Advance Course, Marine Corps Command and Staff College and School of Advanced Warfighting, and the Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy. He has earned Master’s Degrees from Marine Corps University, National Defense University, and Capitol College. Major General Castellvi was the 1993 recipient of the Leftwich Trophy for leadership. His personal decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit w/ Gold Star, Bronze Star w/Combat “V”, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal w/ three Gold Stars, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal w/ two Gold Stars, and the Combat Action Ribbon w/ Gold Star.
