Jack McGovern has been active in the Fire Service since 1991, and is a Battalion Chief in the Fredericksburg (Virginia) Fire Department. His responsibilities include serving as the Deputy Emergency Manager, Training Officer and Safety Officer for the Department. He has worked with Project Kill the Flashover (KTF) since 2014 and received his Craftsman Designation in 2018 after completing the Fire Behavior University and Live-Fire Field Experiment. He enjoys passing information along at a “Bay Floor/ Kitchen Table” level and breaking things down to prevent firefighter injuries and fatalities while still doing our job. His mantra is “Don’t just DO your job, WANT to do your job. “Let’s Go! Action Oriented Decision-Making on the Fireground” will present some ways for firefighters and officers to move from making decisions to taking ACTION to save lives. Among his many certifications in the Fire Service, Jack is a Fire Officer IV, Fire Instructor III, Level 1 Thermography, HazMat Specialist, Master Underwater Criminal Investigator, and Structural Collapse Technician. He holds a BS-Criminal Justice Degree from ODU (1998), and he is also a graduate of the inaugural Virginia Chief Officers Academy. Most importantly, he remains a Student of the Trade. He lives in Spotsylvania County with his wife of 7 years, Jessica, and their dog, Bubba.
