After delivering the afternoon newspaper for several years, Matt landed a job as a sacker at a grocery store and unknowingly took the first step into his produce career. His passion and work ethic were recognized early and he became an Assistant Produce Manager during his senior year of high school. From there, he went on to run three retail produce departments including the largest in size, largest in volume and opened up a new store from the ground up. After nearly 10 years in retail, he decided to broaden his experience and took a role as a Produce Buyer for a family-owned foodservice distributor and soon after became Director of Produce. Five years later he went on to work for Associated Wholesale Grocers where he spent 2.5 years there as a Buyer and Category Manager supporting 350 retail stores. He then joined US Foods as a Sourcing Manager in 2013. After a few months in that role, he accepted the position as West Region Category Manager for Produce, overseeing all the produce operations for twelve West Coast-based facilities. In October of 2015 Matt moved into the position of Director, Category Operations - Produce in Rosemont, Ill. In this position he led a team of Regional Category Managers in execution of all produce related company strategies. As a team, they oversee all produce related field operations including warehouse, assortment, marketing, replenishment, QA and pricing and for all markets. Most recently Matt moved into the role of Director, Produce replenishment service center. In this position he has accountability for all centrally managed fresh produce replenishment activities, leads a group of 55 individuals in charge of all replenishment activities into five produce re-distribution centers and a nationwide network of Broadline food service distribution centers.
