Jeffrey I. Ehrlich is the principal of the Ehrlich Law Firm in Claremont, California. He has been certified as an appellate specialist by the State Bar of California’s Committee on Legal Specialization since 1996. His practice emphasizes civil appellate work and writs. Mr. Ehrlich is a 1983 cum laude graduate of the Harvard Law School and was a law clerk for the Honorable Judith N. Keep, former Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California. In 2006, he founded the Ehrlich Law Firm. He has brief and argued 100s of appeals, including in the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Courts of Appeal for the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 9th, and 11th Circuits, the California Supreme Court, and every appellate court in California. He has over 100 published opinions as lead counsel, including nine cases in the California Supreme Court. In 2015, as a pro bono project, he took on the habeas corpus matter of Raymond Jennings, an Iraq War veteran who had been convicted of murder and was serving a 40-year-to-life sentence. As a result of Mr. Ehrlich’s efforts, Mr. Jennings was released from prison in June 2016 and in January 2017 his conviction was vacated and he was found by the court to be “factually innocent.” He is a co-author of Croskey, Heeseman, Ehrlich & Klee, California Practice Guide – Insurance Litigation (Rutter Group 2019) and has served as the editor-in-chief of CAALA’s Advocate magazine since 2009. He has authored briefs as amicus curiae in the California Supreme Court and the California Courts of Appeal on behalf of the CAOC, United Policyholders, CalPIRG, and other consumer organizations. He was the first two-time winner of CAALA’s Appellate Lawyer of the Year award and is on the faculty of that organization’s Trial Lawyer’s College.
