During 1976, Karl graduated from Missouri State University with a BS in Geology. He has worked both in government and in the public energy sector. During his work with the state of Colorado he worked as an engineering geologist for the Colorado Division of Highway and conducted highway-structure foundation evaluations, slope stability studies, and aggregate studies. While at the Colorado Geological Survey, he worked a USGS grant to evaluate the coal resources of the Denver East ½ degree x 1 degree quadrangle. This project produced three publications. Karl has worked coal, petroleum, and uranium projects in the Williston Basin, Denver Basin, San Juan Basin, South Texas, Arklatex, the GOM, Book Cliffs, and the Wasatch Plateau. While at ARCO, Karl began working in the data management world, and managed well-log data, scout data, seismic, and lease data. He survived the spin off to Vastar, and merger with BP. Fourteen years ago he accepted a position with BHP to develop and manage BHP’s borehole Data Management System (BHDM). Karl enjoys cycling and traveling with his wife to spoil their grandchildren.
