Allen Hunsberger

Allen Hunsberger is the Assistant director, Purchasing and Contracting for the County of San Diego. He works for the Director of Purchasing and Contracting, helping to lead a procurement department that supports the County of San Diego’s operations with an annual procurement spend of over one billion dollars. Allen joined the County of San Diego Department of Purchasing and Contracting in 1996. He worked as a Buyer 1, Procurement Specialist, Senior Procurement Specialist, Procurement Contracting Officer, Departmental Information Technology Coordinator, ERP System Administrator, and Purchasing Manager prior to his current role. He also recently retired from a career as an intelligence officer in the Untied States Navy Reserve. Allen has a degree in Physics from the University of California at San Diego, and an MBA from San Diego State University. Allen has served many roles in procurement associations. He is currently on the Leadership Development Committee for NIGP and has previously served as Chair of the San Diego satellite group of the California Association of Public Purchasing Officers (CAPPO), as well as on many conference committees and workgroups. Most of all, Allen enjoys learning about the field of public sector procurement and sharing that knowledge with his peers. He has spoken on numerous topics including federal compliance, electronic procurement technology, bid protests, procurement card reconciliation to name a few. He also teaches procurement and project management courses through San Diego State University Extension.
