Jim Bates has been in the insurance/risk management business since 1982. He is a 1984 graduate of Trinity College in Hartford, CT with a degree in Economics. Jim has been the Director of Risk Management for the Mandalay Bay campus since 2014. This is MGM Resorts International’s largest footprint. The property includes two large hotel towers, seven pools including wave pool and lazy river, large casino floor, over 2M square feet of convention space, Cirque du Soleil MJOne showroom theatre, day clubs and nightclubs, multiple spas, wedding chapels, spacious and renowned Shark Reef Aquarium, House of Blues concert hall, beach concert stage venue, and a separate events center that seats over 12,000. Property also showcases a mall with over 50 separate eateries, bars/lounges, and retail shops. Jim leads design and implementation of risk mitigation strategies partnering with all divisions on property, working closely with property CFO and President. Jim analyzes and addresses incident and loss trends through thorough review and adaptation of policies and procedures and best practices development. Jim has almost daily interaction with MGM Legal counsel for represented and litigated matters, and direct involvement with all litigation matters, trials and depositions. Session Description – A session taught by Jim Bates, Director of Risk Management at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino/Delano Las Vegas, on the importance of incident response, documentation and follow-up. Will review the full cycle of incident readiness, response, processing, and Legal proceeding preparation. A mix of thought provoking instructional information and real life examples.
