Strategic Advisor & Retired U.S. Army Command Sergeant Major



Mike Hoover, CSM USA retired, is a veteran of nearly 28 years in the United States Army. He began his career as an Army Ranger, in the 3rd Ranger Battalion. Mike then assessed for and was selected to attend the United States Army Special Forces Qualification course. Upon successful completion, he was assigned to the 5th Special Forces Group, (Airborne), where he served on a Special Forces Combat Dive team. In 1991, Mike assessed for and was selected for assignment to an Army Special Mission Unit in Fort Bragg North Carolina, where he spent the rest of his Army career. During his military career, Mike deployed numerous times into combat zones as well as on classified National Command Authority directed contingency operations. Mike has led direct combat operations in the joint and combined arena and also has served a cumulative 22 months as the Senior Enlisted Advisor for the Joint, Combined, Task Force assigned with the destruction of Al-Qaeda in Iraq. He is a veteran of the first Gulf War, NATO Operations in the Balkans, Operation Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom, Operation New Dawn as well as operations in Northern Africa. Upon retirement from active duty, Mike joined McChrystal Group Leadership and Management consulting firm. He quickly rose from consultant to Partner and led the largest revenue producing contract in the organization. In 2014, Mike began working for Scotts Miracle Gro as a consultant and was soon hired as the Vice President of Strategy. During his tenure at Scotts, Mike was responsible for the execution and oversight of nearly $1B of acquisitions in the Cannabis industry. During this time, Mike developed a widely held reputation as a subject matter expert. Mike currently serves as a Strategic Advisor to GreenSpring Associates, a Venture Capital investment firm located in Owings Mills, Maryland, while also consulting in the Cannabis space.
