Kenneth Odom

Kenneth is the technical studies lead in the Reservoir Management Section at Southern Company. He holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of Alabama and a Ph.D. with a minor in Statistics from the University of Tennessee. His focus is dissolved oxygen enhancement in hydropower discharges. In this area Kenneth is involved in most every aspect from analyzing data and performing studies to design and construction of dissolved oxygen enhancement measures. He is currently the project manager for dissolved oxygen enhancements on three hydropower plants on the Coosa River in the Alabama Power Company system. Prior to his current role, Kenneth served as a plant support engineer troubleshooting plant mechanical issues and working on capital projects. Before joining Southern Company, Kenneth worked for the U.S. Geological Survey in Kentucky, Alabama, and Colorado. He has served on numerous committees and boards including: President of the Hydro Research Foundation; President of the Alabama Section of the American Water Resources Association; Industry Board Member for the University of Alabama Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering Department; and an instructor for the HydroVision HydroBasics course. In 2014 he was named a Distinguished Fellow of the University of Alabama Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering Department. He is also a registered Professional Engineer in the state of Alabama. He enjoys hiking, traveling, and teaching kids how Alabama Power Company uses the power of water to make electricity.
