Nick Richards is a tax attorney with over 20 years of experience resolving IRS and State tax audits, trials and tax debt. Nick is a partner at Greenspoon Marder, an AmLaw 200 law firm with an extensive cannabis practice, where he helps cannabis companies with State and Federal tax audits, trials and tax debt, Section §280E compliance, entity structure, M&A and BSA compliance. Since it was first legalized, Nick has utilized his experience in the IRS and in representing other types of businesses to resolve ongoing tax and compliance matters for the cannabis industry. Nick is licensed to practice law in California and Colorado; he is an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Denver, a former IRS trial attorney, and a former Special Assistant U.S. Attorney. Nick is also a board member, husband and father of two, and he teaches tax controversy and section 280E to accountants and attorneys throughout the U.S.
