AEP
Ron Cunningham Ron Cunningham works for American Electric Power (AEP) as an IT Enterprise Architect with over 44 years’ experience in the electric utility industry. Early work assignments included: power systems analysis, economic dispatch algorithms development, EMS/SCADA systems specifications, generation production and fuel forecasting, nuclear plant construction scheduling and project control systems. He transitioned to IT and focused on: management of engineering and CIS application development/support groups; computer/telecom R&D, architectural work on enterprise wide business applications, information, infrastructure (computing, telecom, internet/intranet, cybersecurity, firewalls/dmzs) areas working on: requirements identification, architecting, design, acquisition/build, deployment, support, and associated policies, procedures, risk mitigation measures. The last 12 years focused on smart grid programs, projects, standards efforts: AEP projects (AMI, DER, FLICR, VVO-CVR) feasibility, pilot/project scoping/selection, TCO, telecom technology architecture/designs, cybersecurity, project risk mitigation, business modeling, Transmission Network Model Management; external industry standards efforts: UCAIug_OpenSG_SG Network TF deliverables; SGIP PAPs 01 and 02 deliverables, contribution to NISTIR 7761, SG Architecture Committee (standards reviews, ontology development, EA framework assessments, past chairman), Technical Committee, Transactive Energy Coordinating Group, Grid Management (DER/DERMS rqmts); Grid 3.0 coordinating efforts and workshops; invited participant in DOE GMLC Grid Architecture, Interoperability workshops; AEP advisor/presenter and contributor on EPRI ICT several research papers and reports; and GridWise Architecture Council Associate member. Ron has double major Mathematics and Physics undergrad degree, with 2 years graduate work in Industrial Engineering, and EIT certificate.
