Paul Hearty is Owner and Principal of Technology Advisors. He was a key contributor to ATSC 1.0, co-developing many of its requirements and test protocols, leading the Advanced Television Evaluation Laboratory, and serving in leadership roles in the FCC Advisory Committee on Advanced Television Service and in the digital HDTV Grand Alliance. For this work, he was awarded one Emmy and recognized for contributions to four others. As Vice President of Technology Standards for Sony Electronics, he led work by Sony and his partners Qualcomm, LGE/Zenith, and Harmonic in advancing ATSC 3.0 standardization and adoption. He is a member of the ATSC Board and has served on the boards of SMPTE, IEEE-SA, and ANSI. He is a Charter Member of CTA’s Academy of Digital Television Pioneers, Chair of CTA’s R4 Video Subcommittee, and founding Chair of CTA’s WAVE project to align Internet delivery protocols. He is founding Chair of the SCTE’s Digital Video Subcommittee, serves on its Engineering Committee, and has received SCTE’s Excellence in Standards Award. He has contributed to many other national and international standards bodies, such as IEEE, SMPTE, IEC, and ITU. He has been awarded five patents and holds a Ph.D. from Queen’s University.
