Steven Hawkins is Executive Director of the Marijuana Policy Project, the most effective organization in the United States advancing legalization of cannabis for adult use and medical treatment. He has held a number of leadership positions within the nonprofit sector, including Executive Vice President of the NAACP, Executive Director of Amnesty International USA, President of the Coalition for Public Safety and Executive Director of the National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty. He began is his career as a civil rights attorney, and has deeply engaged in a range of policy issues both domestically and internationally over the last 30 years. He is a graduate of Harvard College and NYU School of Law.
