DEREK BERGSTEN was sworn in as the tenth Chief of the Rockford (IL) Fire Department on November 14, 2008. He has served in the department since 1994. Previously, he was a firefighter/EMT-B for three years at the Loves Park Fire Department. Prior to his appointment as chief, he was as a company officer at the ranks of lieutenant and captain.
