Sidney Finkel

Sidney was born Sevek Finkelstein in Piotrkow, Poland, the youngest child of a lumberyard owner. He says life was idyllic until the Nazis invaded Poland when he was 6 years old. In 1945, after losing his mother, father, and two siblings, enduring slave labor and concentration camps, 13-year-old Sevek and his brother Isaac were evacuated to England. In 1951, Sevek, now Sidney, moved to Chicago, where he began a successful career in appliance sales. Sidney today is a widower, has five children, nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He lives in Tucson, Ariz.
