Bill Riehl is G&W’s AVP of Structures where he is responsible for supporting the inspection, maintenance, repair and construction associated with the 8,000 track carrying structures and tunnels owned and operated by the G&W family of Railroads. A Structural Engineer graduate of the Pennsylvania State University in 1987, he began his railroad career by taking Penn State’s senior level Railroad Engineering elective and then working a number of positions with railroad consultants, contractors and shortlines. In 1993, he settled in Jacksonville, Florida with the Florida East Coast Railway where he became their Chief Engineer Maintenance of Way. In 2000, he reentered the consulting profession and became Niemeyer and Associates’ Florida Office and Director of Operations. Along the way, he earned a Master of Science in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the University of Florida in 2003. He is a licensed professional engineer in the states of Florida, Ohio and Wyoming and is an active member of the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance of Way Association where he serves on the Conference Operating Committee, Committee 7 – Timber Structures and Committee 24 – Education and Training. Concurrent with his railroad career, he has over 33 years of military service. A Colonel in the Air Force Reserves, he Commander, 822d Civil Engineer Flight at Naval Air Station Fort Worth Joint Reserve Base, Texas. He has deployed to four continents for both contingency and humanitarian missions.
