Satoshi Hamaguchi

Dr. Satoshi Hamaguchi has been Professor of Engineering at the Center for Atomic and Molecular Technologies, Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka University, Japan, since 2004. He works on analyses of plasma surface interactions for semiconductor processing and surface modification of biomaterials and medical devices, using modeling, numerical simulation, and beam/plasma experiments. Prior to joining Osaka University, Dr. Hamaguchi was Associate Professor of Energy Science at the Graduate School of Energy Science, Kyoto University, Japan, from 1998 to 2004, Research Staff Member at IBM T. J. Watson Research, USA, from 1990 to 1998, and Research Fellow at the Institute of Fusion Studies (IFS), University of Texas at Austin, USA, from 1988 to 1990. At Kyoto University and IBM, he studied fundamental characteristics of low-temperature plasmas, nuclear fusion plasmas, dusty plasmas, and plasma surface interactions, using modeling and numerical simulations. At IFS, he worked on theory and numerical simulation on turbulent transport in fusion plasmas. Prof. Hamaguchi received his M. Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in mathematics from the Department of Mathematics, Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, New York University, USA, in 1986 and 1988, and B. Sc. and M. Sc. in physics from the Department of Physics, University of Tokyo, Japan, in 1982 and 1984. He also holds a Ph. D. degree in physics from the University of Tokyo. He is a Fellow of American Vacuum Society and a Fellow of American Physical Society.
