The world’s first battery-actuated fastening tool for steel and concrete. Hilti Battery-actuated fastening tool BX 3

Plano, TX. – Contractors have been asking for a fastening solution that combines speed and productivity of a powder- or gas-actuated tool with the ease and comfort of a cordless tool. Hilti delivers with the world’s first battery-powered direct-fastening tool for concrete and steel—the Hilti Battery-actuated fastening tool BX 3.

This tool represents a new dimension in drywall construction and electrical applications as the only direct-fastening tool that does not require a combustible propellant. Users will find that BX 3 has a lower recoil while providing the speed and productivity of powder- and gas-actuated tools.  A lower noise level makes this tool ideal for work in occupied spaces. Unlike powder- actuated tools, the use of the BX 3 does not require operators to have a special certification.

The BX 3 is offered in two versions, the BX 3 IF for fastening of drywall track to concrete or steel and the BX 3 ME for electrical applications such as conduit clips, switchboxes, cable fastening and fastening light fixtures. The BX 3 ME is compatible with Hilti’s electrical fasteners such as conduit clips, stand-off clamps, cable tie holders, cable clasps, threaded rod hangers, and wires for suspending light fixtures.  The BX 3 ME can be fitted with an optional pole extension which takes the effort out of overhead fastening, allowing installers to stay on the ground to complete the job.

The BX 3 uses the same interchangeable 18V battery as those of other Hilti cordless tools such as drill drivers, impact drivers, screw drivers, saws and hammer drills. With a powerful 5.2 Ah 18V battery, the BX 3 can fasten up to 750 nails with a single charge.

At its core, the BX 3 uses “spring-belt” technology to store and transmit energy without having to rely on combustible propellants. A brushless motor powered by Hilti’s high quality 18V battery compresses two heavy duty helical springs. These springs store the energy and deliver it to the piston via a fiber belt when the trigger is pulled.  Each one of the two springs require about 800 lbs. of force to compress. The piston then drives high performance fasteners into concrete or steel resulting in high productivity with the comfort of lower contact pressure and substantially lower noise when compared to powder or gas actuated tools.

The Battery-actuated fastening tools BX 3 IF and BX 3 ME are built to provide long-term service under the most rugged conditions. For added peace of mind these tools are covered by Hilti’s Tool Warranty 20/2/1 which consists of 20 years of repair or replacement of defective parts; 2 year no cost repair including wear and tear; and a guaranteed 1-day in-and-out of our Repair Center.*
