Kumu Networks (www.kumunetworks.com) succeeded to challenge some of the basic assumptions in wireless technology by building a full-duplex system that simultaneously transmits and receives on the same frequency. In addition to future standards, the technology can be used to improve spectrum reuse and remove limitations of hardware-based filters in existing systems. For example, Full-Duplex Relays based on Kumu Networks’ technology have been deployed commercially by two of the top operators in the USA. The technology is also part of the National Spectrum Consortium (NSC) Military Full-Duplex Communications (MFDR) project awarded at the end of 2017. Kumu Networks is now introducing a family of Self-Interference Cancellation RFICs to allow OEMs/ODMs in markets such as 5G, LTE, WiFi, and of course, the defense space, to improve isolation between any Transmitter/Receiver pair operating on the same or adjacent frequencies.
