Midwest’s Glidex® family of lubricants ensures long-lasting lubrication on vital rail switches and vertical surfaces, more easily and effectively than possible with other methods. Applied as a fluid, they remain in place and becomes static, providing a barrier that keeps metal components lubricated. They withstand the elements, resists wash-off, won’t pack and harden, and do not attract dirt and sand.
When applied to railroad switch points, plates, rail – and other locations where ice can interfere with operations – prior to snow and ice storms, Midwest’s Ice Free Switch® will remain in place and activate when needed. More efficient than rail heaters, it quickly melts falling and blowing snow to prevent switches from freezing ensuring uninterrupted switch operation in freezing temperatures.
Midwest’s third rail anti-icer uses a NASA Smart Fluid technology we call Zero Gravity™, co-developed by NASA/Ames Research Center and Midwest. Zero Gravity Third Rail® applied before a storm, prevents ice and snow from bonding to the third rail, keeps your trains on schedule, and helps maintain maximum safety for passengers.
