Since 1975, the California Energy Commission has been responsible for reducing the state's electricity and natural gas demand. As the state's primary energy policy and planning agency, the Commission is committed to reducing energy costs and environmental impacts of energy use while ensuring a safe, resilient, and reliable energy supply. Minimum standards for new and existing buildings are updated every three years with design, construction and operation measures that are technically feasible and cost effective.
