Performance Optimization of CHP plant EL-TO Zagreb (Room Lehar 3)

CHP plant EL-TO Zagreb is constantly being renewed with new production units such as recently installed LP steam boilers NTK-1 and NTK-2 as some production units will be put out of operation in the near future due to aging and emission limits. In order to maximize the plant profitability, plant owner HEP d.d. started a project for Performance optimization of CHP plant EL-TO Zagreb aiming to minimize the plant operating costs. Projected was conducted by means of EBSILON®Professional and self-developed optimization algorithm for finding global minimum of the objective function (plant operation costs). Paper outlines project results achieved through developed plant model enabling identification of production units which should be preferred for operation at respective ambient conditions in order to meet the district heat and process steam demand at the lowest operating costs. Developed model will also serve as a basis for modeling the district heating interconnection (“Spojna Veza”) in order to simulate the Plant behavior in overall supply of the city of Zagreb with district heat and process steam.
