Make it in NYC: Manufacturing your products in New York City (EDC)

New York City is one of the global capitals of design, with more people employed in design-related fields than any other US city. New York is also the largest consumer and commercial market in the US, and one of the largest in the world. It’s the city where people come to be inspired and create new ideas, have their ideas discovered, and sell their products to the masses.

What many people don’t realize is that New York City also is a place where companies produce and manufacture their products. The city is home to millions of square feet of industrial space (including City-owned sites with lower rents); access to airports, rail, ports, and other transportation hubs; a long manufacturing tradition; a host of financial incentives; and access to the global marketplace. New York City also is a hotbed for new and emerging technologies, from 3D printing to tech-inspired innovations.

All of this is the foundation of what makes New York City a prime location for furniture and home furnishing manufacturers to set up shop—and thrive. In fact, since 2012, furniture manufacturing has seen a renaissance in the city, with the subsector seeing a 16% increase in gross city product and a 6% increase in employment.

This panel will provide a healthy overview and discussion around the opportunities to ""Make it in NYC""—something many people don’t know is possible!
