A prominent geographic feature is present in the site of a wind farm in which a long ridge rises by over 500 meters over the low lands. Wind turbines are located on the higher ground of the ridge among small hills and flatter grounds. The locally prevailing wind comes from the low altitude and meets the ridge head-on. A large eddy simulation (LES) study of this site has been conducted using the Meteodyn-LES simulator. The wind speed analysis of Supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) data, the terrain data, the mesh generation and the numerical setup have all been considered. The aim of the study is to assess the wind flow characteristics that arise immediately after the ridge and to compare the results with the SCADA data from the actual wind turbines located in this area.
