Considering Human Factors for Local Road Safety (Room 608)

Studies indicate that while vehicle defect and mechanical failure and roadway and weather conditions are contributors to crashes, it is road user error that is responsible nearly 57% of the time. The Federal Highway Administration is presenting this session about how human factors affect roadway safety. Practical examples will be offered for how to design roadways, install traffic control devices, and provide traveler information that takes into consideration such human factors as driver expectancy and reaction time, driver distactions, and decision-making capabilities.
