Clarks Creek Project Case Study: Treatment of stormwater runoff in urban stream environments presents a unique challenge. The design approach at Clarks Creek was multifaceted; the restoration helped to solve flooding, erosion, sedimentation and water quality problems. Urban creek restoration designs remove artificial organic compounds from stormwater runoff. Restoration has been shown to reverse channel incision and gully formation that threaten bridges and other infrastructure, and reduces sediment maintenance issues while improving habitat and public recreation. The Clarks Creek design installed effective bank erosion protection and sediment capture, which could also be successfully applied to protect major county and state highways, levees, and private property.
