Have you ever found yourself sitting in a meeting thinking that there’s a large elephant in the room and nobody is dealing with it? You may be wondering “What’s the point of asking about it, when nothing will be done?” Or you might be worried that bringing it up would be a career limiting move. APWA’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee is hosting this Jam session that will allow attendees to ask questions about diversity issues in the workplace and get feedback from public works peers. Topics that might come up include: • How does it feel to be the only person that looks like you in a staff meeting? • What are your thoughts about having prayer at organizational events? • Should people discuss politics in the workplace? • Has the use of social media in the workplace had positive or negative effects, or both? • Are millennial managers and supervisors kicking out more seasoned workers? • What should the organization’s policies be regarding ethics, harassment and Title VI training? • What should the organization’s policies be regarding promotion, seniority, and diversity goals?
