Public Speaking, Presentation and Communication Skills Needed for Success! (Room 609-610)

Public speaking, presentation and communication skills are requisite competencies for public works leaders. These skills are needed for effective communication to the public, elected officials and peers. Communication capabilities remain one of the key areas of needed improvement for many. As public works leaders, we are logical, analytical, and detail-oriented, which allows us to do our work effectively and competently. However, when it comes to public speaking and effective communication skills, many of us could benefit from further development. This session will be led by public works professionals just like you and will focus upon the key elements that can be learned by all to be better communicators. Discover how we can become better advocates for our profession when engaging in public policy discussions, presenting on behalf of our agencies and organizations to councils and boards, and leading discussions that present difficult choices to the public.
