As a DMEPOS supplier, you know that a compliance program is required; but did you know that it is also beneficial?  Medicare overpayment demands are commonplace. In addition, health care fraud and abuse cases continue to make headlines. While those cases are not representative of most suppliers in the industry, they should at least cause some introspection into what "could" happen. Evaluating an organization's compliance program is now part of a federal prosecutor's job when determining and imposing penalties for violators. Whether you are a small supplier or a large national supplier, in the event of a compliance issue or concern, the government will now analyze your compliance program to determine if additional sanctions against the company are warranted. Three basic questions they want answered are: (1) is the corporation's compliance program well-designed, (2) is the program being applied earnestly and in good faith, and (3) does the corporation's compliance program work in practice? This presentation will guide you through the types of things that the government would evaluate your organization on to determine if the above questions are answered and your compliance program is sound. Not only is a compliance program important, but one that is effective and answers these questions in the affirmative could save an implicated organization millions of dollars.
