Developing a Strategy for IPM in Cannabis (Room Seaside Ballroom A)

Integrated pest management is a strategy for controlling pests and pathogens using cultural, chemical, biological, and preventative measures. In order effectively control pests with integrated pest management practices, the following considerations should be evaluated: (1) target pests for the chemical application, (2) crop safety of products, (3) product application practices, (4) environmental and human health, (5) resistance management, and (6) preventative and curative methods for control. Lack of research in the field of Cannabis pest management and supporting product information make it challenging for growers to follow these guidelines. New pests and pathogens are starting to affect Cannabis and additional products and research are needed by growers. As the demand for high quality research increases and state agencies expand regulations for pest management products, Cannabis growers will be able implement effective pest management strategies based in science and data.
