Even with 47 years in restaurant hospitality under his belt, it’s been a long road: December 14, 1982 is the day Mickey Bakst characterizes as his “demise.” Like untold others in the industry suffering from addiction, Mickey found his “bottom” in 1982. Fortunately for him and us, he “came back to life,” as he calls it, found his calling – and a way to stay in business – and ultimately created Ben’s Friends.
