Wake creation, propagation, and impacts on downwind turbines will be demonstrated. The relationship of power curve control region, turbine spacing, and atmospheric stability on wakes will be explained. Next, results of calibrating a wake research model to operational data from a commercial wind farm will be presented. Lessons learned and future developments will be discussed. Finally, the calibrated wake model will be used to quantify losses due to wake in an operating wind farm. These losses will be quantified in terms of energy and revenue to understand how wind turbine wakes impact the commercial operation of a wind facility.
