International Fastener Expo 2018

Environmental Impact with Coating Changes (Room Show Floor, Sessions Corner)

01 Nov 18
12:30 PM - 1:00 PM

Fastener coating manufacturers are forever caught in a battle to provide the highest quality part finish and performance characteristics for their end customers.  Over the years, regulatory pressures have pushed coatings toward more environmentally friendly coating formulations. These have typically manifested themselves in more water based or powder type coatings. However, the need to push the envelope and further improve coating performance (appearance and durability) has seen a recent change in paint chemistry to accomplish higher standards. This has resulted in a trend or return toward higher solvent levels in applied coatings. Unfortunately for coaters, high solvent production emissions eventually trigger well established VOC and hazardous air pollutant regulations, and the need for expensive add on control equipment.

In this session, James Kuzara of Ship & Shore Environmental, Inc. will address best practices during the entire abatement equipment selection and installation process. Mr. Kuzara will address equipment sizing, performance, and how best to integrate abatement systems into your current and future facility design. This session will also look into maximum energy recovery solutions and utility rebate incentives from natural gas and electric utility suppliers to help soften the financial impacts. By understanding this equipment selection/installation process, attendees will be better prepared to take on air pollution controls if needed.
