The Uniquely Abled Project - A Possible Skilled Workforce Solution by Ivan Rosenberg (Room South Pacific Ballroom C)

1:00 PM - 2:00 PM
The #1 problem for most manufacturers, especially fastener manufacturers, is access to a skilled workforce.
The Uniquely Abled Project has successfully demonstrated a solution to this problem by recognizing that individuals with a diagnosis typically have compensating unique abilities.  By matching those abilities to jobs in demand the manufacturer’s workforce problem can be solved.
For example, there is a population that loves and is good at the highly repetitive jobs that require detailed focus, such as are typical in a fastener manufacturer.  As another example, in 16-week programs, 70 individuals with high functioning autism have been trained and placed in full-time jobs as CNC operators, with overwhelmingly positive evaluations by employers.
Ivan will describe the successes achieved by employers in Southern California and propose how manufacturers in other parts of the country can access such workers.
The workforce shortage and the high unemployment of uniquely abled individuals are solutions for each other.
