Cable-Tec Expo 2019

The New HetNet (Room 243-244)

The combination of technologies such as Dual-SIM/Dual Standby (DSDS) and spectrum sharing are enabling the creation of a new kind of mobile network – the new heterogeneous network, or “HetNet” – that combines 4G, 5G, and Wi-Fi. Charter’s mobile engineering group explains its work in on a dynamic DSDS for user equipment, useful for dynamically selecting and switching data paths between networks. Cox and Nokia/Bell Labs describe the findings from a recent collaboration to identify no-regrets wireless technology investments that work today and support future wireless strategies. Ericsson will present on how each spectrum band has different physical properties, leading to trade-offs between capacity, coverage, and latency, as well as reliability and spectral efficiency.
