As the integration of distributed energy resources (DER)integration grows, so too will the importance of having more information about the distribution system itself. This will require more technology to connect at the edge. Utility distribution planners seeking to understand current capabilities future planning must understand current network capabilities and planned upgrades. Likewise, a utility’s telecom and IT departments must understand its strategy for enhancing the distribution system’s capabilities to ensure it has adequate field communications.  This presentation will discuss the core elements of a holistic distribution plan and where telecom, IT and OT fit into the planning and modeling process.
