Tracks: Transportation Planning Impact Assessment

Meso and macroscopic traffic simulation of mixed traffic with manually driven vehicles (MDV), autonomous vehicle (AV), and connected automated vehicles (CAV) are very important tools for the evaluation the impact of CAVs on mobility and energy consumption in a regional level for transportation planning. Therefore, it directly affects the development and wide application of CAVs from policy side.

The purpose of this presentation is to report how to properly calibrate mesoscopic simulation considering that field test data with different market penetration of CAVs are not available now and years to come. This presentation suggests using Fundamental Diagram (FD) generated from microscopic traffic simulation with mixed traffic with variety of market penetration levels of CAVs at critical locations for the calibration of the mesoscopic simulation.
