Advanced crash avoidance system and VRU interaction is an area where safety challenges still remain to be addressed, particularly in view of multiple recent incidents. This study investigates bicyclist and pedestrian crashes and factors associated with them from national and Michigan crash databases where the VRU was at fault, to provide better context and information for automated mobility decision making algorithms.
