Tracks: Transportation Planning Impact Assessment

The poster presents a summary of research on traffic simulation models of connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs). Many such models already exist, some of them are implemented in professional simulation tools and used in studies related to investigating the impact of connected and autonomous transport. However, it is very difficult nowadays to validate, reproduce and compare results of such studies, because there are no standards of conducting such studies, there is a lack of data which can be used for calibrating traffic models including CAVs, details of tools applied for experiments are often not available for a scientific community. Similar studies, carried out using different tools and methods but concerning the same aspects, quite often produce different results and contradictory conclusions. Therefore, it is difficult to draw the proper conclusions from such studies, which makes any planning related to preparation for the era of CAVs much more difficult. The presented research studies existing traffic models including CAVs and approaches to conduct experiments using simulation tools implementing such models. It proposes several recommendations for organizing studies related to CAVs and building standards for such studies, including traffic models, datasets, verification and availability of results.
