Tracks: Energy and Environment

The potential energy implications of connected and automated vehicles are very uncertain, with large uncertainty in both behavioral and technological futures. A report published by the U.S. Department of Energy national laboratories found a potential three-fold increase or decrease in energy consumption of light-duty vehicles (Stephens et al., 2016), a result largely in line with other high-level reports. This poster details ongoing research to update and refine those bounds, highlighting interactions between the key factors that drive energy consumption, considering new research results on the impacts for particular technologies, relative likelihoods of parameter ranges, and looking at future scenarios.
