Automated Vehicle developers across the United States share the goal of testing and deploying technology that is safer than a human driver. Uber ATG has sought to coalesce concepts from other safety critical industries into a framework that could be applied to Automated Driving Systems. The broad approach incorporates the latest guidance from US DOT and embraces the idea of a multifaceted approach to ensuring safety. Uber ATG believes this approach could also be used to build public trust in the on-road testing operations occurring in the United States. In this talk, Uber will outline this approach and how it has applied it to its own technology development.
