Resource and Project Energy Assessment 2019

Embracing the Future: How to Win(d) Big with Remote Sensing

A pressing question in the wind industry remains - how can we reduce the cost of wind energy and de-risk future projects?  Development and alignment on cutting-edge wind resource assessment techniques will not only play a pivotal role in lowering overall project costs, but also enable better informed pre-construction decisions on project design levers, which ultimately helps boost project performance and reduce LCOE.  While trusted cup anemometry remains invaluable to the industry, the growing demand to meet new market requirements has initiated the pursuit for new wind resource evaluation methods that incorporate wind measurements from more agile remote sensing devices (RSDs) (e.g., higher ROI, mobile systems, higher height wind measurement range, etc.).  This session will address data driven solutions to RSD challenges in an effort to accelerate the transition towards universal acceptance of RSD data for wind resource assessment.
