The misuse of opioid painkillers places undue burdens on businesses and society while injured workers become addicted, shattering lives and harming their families. But risk managers and their allies are responding with a number of measures for overcoming prescription abuse patterns. Those measures include using drug-screening guidelines, prescription authorization alerts, drug formularies, injured worker case history reviews, and pharmacy management programs. They are also exploring alternatives like yoga, meditation, acupuncture, medical marijuana, and behavioral therapy. The speakers will discuss what’s actually working and benefitting employers and injured workers.
