Safe Bars
Zack Sanders (he/him) grew up in Connecticut, honing his hospitality skills and fostering a love for community, nature, history, and hospitality. After graduating from the University of Washington with a BA in Community, Environment and Planning, his thirst for knowledge and love of travel aligned perfectly with the enchanting world of spirits history. Zack has since bartended on both coasts with restaurants Dahlia Lounge, Pennyroyal, Dirty Habit DC, the Dabney, Reliable Tavern, Jack Rose, and currently runs the beverage program at Toki Underground. His dedication to education has led him to receive his Introductory Certification from the Court of Master Sommeliers in 2018 and Bar Ready with Distinction from the Bar 5-Day program in 2020. He has combined his love of hospitality with his desire to support and strengthen his community by spending the last two years as a Safe Bars trainer and currently serves as president of the DC Craft Bartender's Guild, the nation’s largest independent guild of its kind. Through these organizations, he seeks to encourage community support, safety, and education as the fundamental goals of future bars and restaurants.
