Chris Nolan, B.E.(civil), M.Eng.Sci, recently retired as Managing Director of the Nolan Group, which is a wholesale distributor of Industrial Fabrics throughout Australia. Through its subsidiary PolyFab Australia, the company also trades with franchise partners in the USA and the Middle East. Chris currently acts as a consultant to the company, responsible for the development and implementation of training and education programmes; and the update of its Technical Manuals, which have been widely circulated throughout the industry, particularly that on Shadecloth, first published in the late nineties. The death of a young teenager, which resulted from the failure of a shadesail structure, was the catalyst for Chris to act on the Coroner's recommendations, and develop standard designs and specifications for small shadesail structures, which were included in revised editions of the manual. Chris is currently a Director of the Blind Manufacturers Association of Australia, and served two terms as a Director of IFAI.
